A bicyclist who was hit by a car over the weekend in Ocean View has died from his injuries, police said.

Ocean View Police identified the driver as 65-year-old Jodi Silverman Bartow of Bethesda, Maryland.

The bicyclist, 76-year-old Alfred Linwood Yergey of Ocean View, was riding in the eastbound lane of Atlantic Avenue approaching Central Avenue on Saturday, according to a release from the town police department.

At that time, a 2018 Subaru Forester was in the left turn lane of westbound Atlantic Avenue waiting to turn into a parking lot with heavy traffic.

Eastbound traffic was stop-and-go when a pickup truck stopped to let the Subaru make a left turn into the parking lot, police said. The Forester began to turn and did not yield right-of-way to the bicyclist, police said.

This created a collision between Yergey's front tire and the Forester's front right bumper, police said. The Subaru came to a stop when it hit Yergey, who was wearing a helmet. Bartow was uninjured, police said.

Yergey was flown by Delaware State Police to Christiana Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. He died Sunday evening due to complications from his injuries.

Ocean View Police are continuing to investigate the collision. No charges have been filed against Bartow at this time.
