Memorial Day barbecues and other outdoor holiday activities will be held under grueling temperatures.

Yesterday’s high temperature reached 96 degrees Farenheight, and the National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement that says residents should expect more of the same today.

According to the NOAA, “Near record high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s, along with depoints in the mid 60s will combine to create heat indexes near 100 degrees this afternoon.”

The most at-risk time frame for these temperatures will be between noon and 6 p.m.

The NOAA has also issued a hazardous weather outlook statement regarding the potential for thunderstorms developing, bringing the threat of very heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusts of wind reaching 60 m.p.h.

The threat for these storms is primarily along and south of Interstate 80.
