PUNE: The exam department squad of the
Savitribai Phule Pune University (
SPPU) caught a student from
MIT College on Saturday for allegedly carrying a cellphone into the examination hall, clicking pictures of the question paper of the mechanical engineering paper and sharing it on the social media.
The Kothrud police have filed an offence of copying against the student. The first-year mechanical engineering paper of SPPU conducted for repeaters and students clearing their backlog was found on the smart phones of students and also some exam department officials a few minutes after the paper started on Wednesday. The university exam department officials found that the source of paper going viral was the examination centre of
Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT).
Initially, SPPU had rubbished claims of the paper going viral from MIT on May 23. However, the varsity on Saturday said a student was caught as the exam department squad found that the student had leaked the paper through his cellphone after the examination started.
The second year student of MIT College, Paud, Adarsh Ravindran is originally from Kerala. His father is based in Lonavala for work.
SPPU controller of examination Ashok Chavan said, “The investigation committee set up by the university found that Adarsh was appearing for the backlog examination of the first-year engineering mechanics. He reached the examination hall 15 minutes after the exam started. He was carrying a cellphone with his, clicked the picture of the paper, sent it to some friends and kept the mobile back in the bag.”
He added, “While the committee was probing the case, they got to know about Adarsh. During interrogation, he admitted to the offence. Though the exam supervisor was present in the examination hall, Adarsh took the pictures of the question papers discreetly.”
An SPPU statement said a detailed inquiry will be conducted and a case will also be registered against MIT if officials of its examination centre were found negligent.
A Kothrud police station officer confirmed that an offence has been registered against the student. The student will be in the police station for further inquiry and investigation, he said.
MIT College of Engineering principal Lalit Kshirsagar said, “We have lodged a complaint against the student with the Kothrud police. They will take further action.”
