Armed offenders squad cordon off streets in Christchurch suburb

At least 13 police cars are attending an incident in Linwood, Christchurch.

Members of the armed offenders squad (AOS) cordoned off part of a Christchurch suburb, but police have said there was no risk to the public.

A police spokeswoman said officers were called to Randolph St in Linwood about 2pm in response to a family harm incident. She said there were reports of a firearm.

A man had been taken into custody and no shots were fired during the incident, she said. 

"There is no risk to the public and the AOS are there as a precautionary measure."

A police spokeswoman said there was no danger to the public and the armed offenders squad were there as a precaution.

The street was cordoned off between Bass and Marcroft streets.

A person at the scene said there were 13 police cars at the corner of Bass and Randolph streets.
