Delhi man kills six-year-old son over tantrum

Annoyed over his six-year-old son’s incessant crying for the Tibetan delicacy momos, a 31-year-old man allegedly killed the boy by throwing him into the Agra canal in south Delhi’s Jaitpur area on Saturday night.

The body of the child was recovered from the canal by the rescue teams on Sunday afternoon. Police have arrested the father, Sanjay Alwi, an e-rickshaw driver.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said a PCR call was received at 10.10 p.m. from a passerby who saw a man throwing a child into the canal from Khadar bridge.

“The man was caught by locals. He was identified as Sanjay Alwi, of Bhangar Mohalla in Madanpur Khadar. He was drunk,” said Mr. Biswal.

Alwi is separated from his wife Ashma, who has custody of the couple’s two older children.

The youngest Ayyan was living with his father and grandfather. Alwi reportedly confessed to having killed the child over his tantrum for momos the moment he returned from work.
