GARDENING AUSTRALIA WINTER SPECIAL
*** three stars
7.30pm, ABC
What sweeter salve for a nervous world than these amiable presenters and their sound advice for enjoying simple pleasures? No matter where you are in this ecologically diverse land, or what your interest in gardening, you'll be a little wiser about earthly pursuits, if not itching to get – as is their strong suggestion – busy in your Winter garden. Highlights include a chook auction and an artfully transformed suburban plot.
THE GRAHAM NORTON SHOW
*** three stars
8.30pm, Ten
Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help) is the rose among the thorns on this testosterone-heavy night on Graham's pink lounge. Joining her are fellow dinosaur hunters, Jeff Goldblum and Chris Pratt from the June school holiday blockbuster, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. After all the action-adventure anecdotes, Jake Shears from ironic disco outfit Scissor Sisters should be a breath of fresh, glittery air.
MOVIE: AUSTRALIA
***** five stars
8.30pm, 7flix
There was much scoffing back when Baz Luhrmann announced he was going to make a film about the wide brown land to end all others. Ten years on, this magnificent piece of outrageously epic cinema remains in the same category as Gone with the Wind. It's wildly dramatic, the scenery is breathtaking, and the storyline encompasses a good sweep of our history. Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman are superb.
