PM Modi launches Rs 11,000-crore Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Baghpat

Earlier today, Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
PM Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first highway to be lit by solar power in Bagpat, Uttar Pradesh today.

Eastern Peripheral Expressway is 135 km long, stretching from Kundli on NH 1 to Palwal on NH 2. PM Modi had laid the foundation for this project on 5th November 2015.

The Eastern Peripheral Expressway has provisions of rain water harvesting on every 500 metres on both sides and would showcase 36 national monuments and 40 fountains, Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari said, adding it has been completed in a record 500 days.

The 135-km-long Eastern Peripheral Expressway or EPE has been built in a record time of 17 months. Its foundation stone was laid by PM Modi in November 2015. The expressway is expected to bring down the pollution level in the national capital by 27 percent.

Earlier today, Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The total length of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway is is 82 km, of which the first 27.74 kms will be 14-laned, while the rest will be 6-lane expressway.

Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari said that by next March the Eastern Peripheral Expressway will be completed and the commuters will be able to travel to Delhi from Meerut only in 40 mins.


It is a fully access-controlled six-lane expressway. Entry and exit on the expressway is through designated interchanges only.

This is the first Expressway in the country to use solar power on the entire length of 135 km. There are eight solar power plants on this Expressway, with a capacity of 4000 KW (4 megawatt) for lighting of the underpasses and running solar pumps for watering plants.
