Double, double, toil and trouble ...
Tensions have been flaring around The CW's reboot of Charmed as cast members of the original sound off about their discontent with the new show's descriptions, and at least one newcomer has had enough.
In a social media statement issued on Saturday, actress Sarah Jeffery spoke out against the negative commentary that's come from the show's previous stars, among others, writing, "I fully understand how dear the OG Charmed is for many. For very, very good reason. We are so beyond grateful to have the opportunity to bring this reboot to life and bring current, timely themes to the forefront of a show that stars not one, not two, but THREE WOC!!! We regard the foundation that was laid with great respect."
"But, when my character is challenged," Jeffery continued, "when there is futile yet harmful noise about how we are either incapable or doomed, I will vociferously defend myself and my sisters."
Jeffery went on to add that the new series doesn't upend the original and leaves it "widely respected" but encouraged others to give Charmed 2.0 a try, saying the "show will have a positive effect on so many women, youth, and anyone who is receptive to being on the right side of history."

— Sarah Jeffery (@sarahmjeffery3) May 26, 2018Jeffrey's statement seems to be an indirect response to original series star Holly Marie Combs' open criticism of the series' marketing, when she wrote last week, "I will never understand what is fierce, funny, or feminist in creating a show that basically says the original actresses are too old to do a job they did 12 years ago. I hope the new show is far better than the marketing so the true legacy does remain."
Combs' words echoed the frustration of co-star Shannen Doherty, who was reportedly offended by the series being dubbed a "feminist" reboot, after agreeing that it belittled the social impact of the original.
Charmed will air Sundays at 9/8c on The CW.
