A Very English Scandal viewers frustrated as drama ‘ruined’ by bizarre choice
A VERY ENGLISH SCANDAL viewers were left feeling utterly fed up with one particularly confusing element of the BBC drama in tonight’s second instalment, and at one point said it even “ruined” the show.
Hugh Grant’s brand-new political drama got off to a cracking start with last week’s gripping episode, and many have called it a career-highlight for the Hollywood actor.
Tonight saw fans increasingly irritated by the BBC drama’s completely off-kilter music choices however.
Unable to concentrate on the the thriller’s plot, fans struggled to concentrate as things reached fever pitch in North Devon.
Norman Scott (Ben Whishaw) was left running for his life in the episode’s final scenes, only realising at the last second that a man claiming to save his life was actually hired to murder him.
But while the rain poured across the south countryside snd Norman grieved the death of his dog, the orchestral music hit ferociously joyous beats.
Taking to Twitter, viewers expressed their frustrations with the choice.
One person wrote: “Probably one of Hugh Grant's best performances ruined by the most insane choice of music rendering it akin to a Carry On...#AVeryEnglishScandal.”
“Very jolly music for #AVeryEnglishScandal considering at the heart of the drama is a true tale of attempted murder,” another shared.
A third agreed: “I could live without the intrusive incidental music #AVeryEnglishScandal.”
While a fourth complained: “I enjoyed #averyenglishscandal - but the music was far too loud?”

“The drama is good - but the music soundtrack is like someone shovelling s**t onto the story. #averyenglishscandal,” another annoyed viewer added.
Some viewers were pleased with the comical music, claiming it gave the drama something extra.
“Whoever chose the music is a comedy genius. #AVeryEnglishScandal,” one fan declared.
Another shared: “The music is so extra. I LOVE IT #AVeryEnglishScandal.”
One viewer then speculated: “Time for #AVeryEnglishScandal time but Murray gold’s music wants to turn into the ‘This is Halloween’ song.”

Last week’s instalment left many viewers very distracted, as they struggled to forget a very different connection between stars Hugh (Jeremy Thorpe) and Ben.
Film viewers will remember both starred in the blockbuster family film Paddington 2 last year.
While Ben voiced the loveable Peruvian bear, who is renowned for his love of marmalade, Hugh took on the dastardly role of his nemesis, the greedy circus performer Phoenix Buchanan.
Given Jeremy entered into a brief and passionate love affair with Norman, some fans struggled to focus on the very different relationship in the BBC drama.
A Very English Scandal concludes Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
