How colour helps achieve maximum impact in this Potts Point apartment
The home
The distinctive Yellow House in Macleay Street, Potts Point, was a well-known artists' collective in the 1970s. The building is now apartments, with a restaurant and art gallery on the ground floor.
Who lives here
Joel Trethowan and Paul Scarf, owners of media agency Alchemy One.
What we did
"A lot of foundations were already here," explains Joel, of the Corian island bench in the living space, the Lego-tiled bathroom, and the bedroom's curved wall of Zaha Hadid wallpaper that changes colour with the light.
Not everyone loved the apartment when they first saw it two years ago, Paul recalls, "but it had everything we wanted".
Favourite room
"The living and kitchen area, it's the heart of our home," says Paul.
The 'hood
"Potts Point feels like a village in the city," says Joel of the inner-Sydney location. "
The neighbours in our building are like a bustling community in itself." Paul adds, "Even the strata meetings are fun, with wine and cheese."
Best advice
"Quality over quantity can add so much without adding too much," says Joel.
Future plans
"We might remove the Zaha Hadid wall and replace it with something moody and dark."
