His contribution to society remembered

Writers, poets and artistes paid homage to internationally famous writer Gudipati Venkatachalam well-known as Chalam in connection with his 124th birth anniversary here on Friday.

On the occasion, they observed a two-minute silence in his memory after garlanding his portrait at a meeting at District Library.

A noted writer Naleswaram Shankar said Chalam was a towering personality in the literary world and his contribution to the society in the form of writing was immense and incomparable. Gudipati Venkatachalam swayed the Telugu literary world for five decades, he observed.

A renowned stage artiste and play write Sreepada Kumara Sarma presided, while Ch. Madhu, Kasarla Naresh and Rajeeva spoke about the literary prowess of Chalam.

Jana Vignana Vedika national honorary president P. Ram Mohan Rao, V.P. Chandan Rao and Rajani Publications publisher and editor Meka Ramaswami were among those who attended.
