On Modi government’s fourth anniversary, Maharashtra Congress mocks PM with ‘Jumla King’ video series

On the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Narendra Modi government, the Maharashtra Congress on Saturday released its social media series ‘Jumla King.’ The party took potshots at the Modi government for making empty promises to the people in its four years of being in power.

Through the video series, the Congress aims to highlight the promises made by PM Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before the 2014 elections and the current ground reality.

Congress party national spokesperson - Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who released the videos, said the government was spending huge amount of money to promote itself. But the ground reality is bleak and disastrous. Singhvi was joined by former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan.

“The government has failed on every front including agriculture, employment and industrial growth. The agricultural growth between 2004 and 2014 was 4.2. It dropped to 1.9 in the last four years. The government announced to double the farmers’ income by 2022. But it seems unlikely to achieve that goal before 2052. Modi had promise 2 crore jobs every year, but fact is thousands of youth in the IT sector have lost their jobs,” he said.

Responding to finance minister Arun Jaitley’s criticism on non-NDA alliance, Singhvi said arithmetic says BJP gets benefits when other parties fail to join hands. Jailtley had said that an alternative political alliance of ideologically flexible parties is no match for NDA.

“The BJP is terrified because the Trinamool Congress, Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party have come together ahead of the 2019 general polls. It has been proved time and again whenever these parties have fought among themselves, the BJP has benefitted,” he added.
