E-challan dates not finalised, ITMS trial run lingers on

BHOPAL : The intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) is has not issued even a single challan to the traffic rule violators till date.

Initially the police and smart city personnel were busy informing commuters about the new technology which has been introduced to keep an eye on them.

They had initial plans for keeping the information drive on for initial ten days or so, however even after 18 days not a single challan has been issued.

On the top of that traffic ASP Jain says he is clueless about when the system will actually start sending e-challans to the commuters who are violating the traffic rules.

Estimated 54k violations observed, not a single challan issued

However, Deputy inspector general of police (DIG) Bhopal Dharmendra Chowdhary admits that the ICCC team is facing certain technological issues.

He said that the date of issuing challans is yet to be finalised as one or the other technical issue is hitting the system.

“Once we overcome these issues the system will start issuing e-challans,“ he said.

After its inauguration by the CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan on May 8, ICCC began its trial with 250 cameras at around 22 places across the city. The trial still continues.

Meanwhile ITMS wins an award. For observation?

The integrated traffic management system (ITMS) of the Bhopal smart city development corporation limited (BSCDCL) has been awarded with the best project award under security integration and intelligent traffic managemtn system in the urban mobility category. Company’s secretary Yogesh Khakare received the award at the fourth smart city India expo 2018 in the New Delhi.

Cops counting numbers, no challan yet

On an average, the ICCC claims to observe three thousand traffic violations including riders sans helmet, over speeding and red light violations. Going by the number by now an estimated 54 thousand traffic violations would have been noticed by the new system. Even if we discount the violations in the initial ten days of the trials, still around 24thousand challans should have been issued for remaining 8 days.

Will post challan from next week: BSCDL

According to Bhopal smart city development corporation limited (BSCDCL) the intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) has started informing the traffic violators with text messages on their mobiles. As many as 200 such traffic rule offenders have been informed by the ITSM on Saturday about the fault and the place where they broke traffic rules. The BSCDCL has claimed that from next week the action will start against the offenders where they will be sent the challan through general post.
