Nagarjuna’s upcoming film Officer, directed by Ram Gopal Varma, is slated to release on June 1. Cine Galaxy, who will be distributing the film in the US, shared on Twitter, “#Officer in theaters near you from May31st evening with regular theatrical prices including premieres. The pre-release event for the film will be held on May 28. Director Ram Gopal Varma tweeted, “We are having a pre release event of #Officer on 28th May 7 pm at N convention ..I invite all @iamnagarjuna ‘s fans to please come and take part in this celebration. Film is releasing June 1st.”

Speaking about collaborating with Nagarjuna after working together on the hit film Shiva in 1990, RGV shared, “I am extremely excited that I am doing a film with Nagarjuna after nearly 25 years.”

Ram Gopal Varma revealed that Officer was inspired by an IPS officer, KM Prasanna, from Karnataka who was appointed as the chief of a Special Investigation Team to look into a reputed cop in Mumbai. “It’s the details that IPS officer K M Prasanna personally told me in 2010 that finally became the story of Officer. Nagarjuna is playing Mr Prasanna, who at present is the Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Mumbai,” RGV had said.

However, it is being claimed that the film might be the copy of Liam Neeson’s Taken.
