BHOPAL : Former chief minister Digvijay Singh, who is away from active politics for 15 years in the state, is going to start ‘ekta yatra’ from May 31. One of the key objectives of the yatra is to remove internal differences within the party and conduct a survey for selection of candidates.
Congress state president Kamal Nath does not know much about state Congress leaders as he limited himself up to Chhindwara. Nath never had direct communication with the party workers in Bundelkhand, Malwa, Central India and Vindhya regions. Ticket distribution in the assembly election could be a tough task for Kamal Nath.
Considering this, Singh is going to take feedback on selection of party candidates. This is also to make sure that only the winnable leaders get ticket. Mahesh Joshi and Rameshwar Neekhra, who are in the coordination committee, is preparing for this work. The initiative of Digvijay has caused anxiety in other camps within the Congress. The followers of MP Jyotiraditya Scinidia, Suresh Pachauri and Singh have differences in districts across the state. These followers fear that Divijay’s report would come in the way of getting ticket.
Joshi too had said in the meeting of coordination committee that the Yatra would also help in conducting survey of candidates for the elections.
Bharatiya Janata Party, seeing former CM Digvijay Singh becoming active in the state politics, has also decided to target him calling him ‘Bantadhaar’ (one who ruins everything). The BJP started calling him as Bantadhaar since 2003 assembly elections and it helped in getting success in the elections too.
The BJP has started comparing the works done in 15 years of the BJP rule including 10 years of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan with 10 years of Singh on social media. The BJP is showing through statistics about the works done in Singh’s tenure in the state.
BJP spokesman Rajnish Agarwal said public would be made aware of the circumstances developed during 10 years of Congress rule in the state. He said their election campaign also comprises of showing how much development work has taken place in the state and how much destruction had taken place.
