Ujjain: Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC)’s additional commissioner (ACMC), Sanjay Mehta faced the music from new commissioner Pratibha Pal on Friday when she cancelled two crucial orders issued by him in his capacity as acting commissioner.
Mehta was made in charge commissioner on May 17, after the then municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar J (IAS) was relieved having been appointed Damoh collector. Pal then joined the office of municipal commisioner on May 23. Mehta during his interim capacity as municipal commissioner, had passed and signed two ‘controversial’ files, one of them revoking the suspension of engineering section clerk Mukesh Ajmeri, who was suspended by the then commissioner on January 24, 2018, following serious charges against him. The outgoing municipal commissioner, too was not in favour of passing the files.
Soon after joining office, Pal got a feedback that Mehta had cleared the controversial files and she immediately called for their review. After she did so on Friday, Mehta’s orders were cancelled. The then municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar J, had also formed a two-member committee to probe allegations leveled against Ajmeri, but before any probe report was submitted, Mehta revoked his suspension as per his will. The new municipal commissioner felt Mehta’s decision was incorrect and illogical and hence ordered to keep Ajmeri under suspension.
The second order which Pal cancelled related to obliging a sub-engineer Rajesh Singh Chauhan. During recent distribution of works among engineering staff, a junior officer (Chauhan), was made building officer of posh zone-6, by Mehta, which created a lot of controversy after reports of Chauhan’s unacceptable manner of functioning. Executive engineer Rambabu Sharma has been given the charge of zone-6 and Chauhan has been shifted to zone-2.
