Kathmandu, May 25

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has decided to close contact offices of 11 universities located outside Kathmandu in the valley.

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokhrel said the decision was taken as contact offices were not found useful and did not contribute in anyway to improve quality of university education.

Pushpa Dhakal, personal secretary of Minister Pokhrel, informed that contact offices in the valley were unnecessary and they just added financial burden on the ministry. “Contact offices have become nothing more than residential quarters for university staffers,” said Minister Pokhrel.

“There is no provision for establishing contact offices in the capital in the Education Act. The ministry decided to close contact offices to reduce the financial burden,” he added.
