‘Zonal system unscientific’

Terming the newly-announced zonal system by the State government as an unscientific and unilateral decision, TPCC vice-president and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar has launched a scathing attack on the Telangana NGOs leaders for ratifying the new zones, which he said was done to appease the Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, he charged that the Chief Minister had split the erstwhile Karimnagar district into seven districts and now further created rift among the employees by carving out four zones unscientifically. He alleged that the employees were assigned to Kamareddy and Sangareddy districts by carving out Rajanna zone.

“There is a lot of resentment among the employees over the carving of Rajanna zone”, he said and flayed the TNGOs leaders for not raising a voice of concern and succumbing to the pressures of the State government. “Why are the leaders scared? Are you worried about securing nominated posts or contesting elections later on TRS tickets?”, he asked. He reminded that then TNGOs leader Swaminathan had fought against the then Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao for the cause of employees.

Appealing to the TNGOs leaders to protest against the TRS government’s unilateral decision, he assured to provide all supported from the Congress party for the agitating employees. Stating that the Telangana State was carved out on the zones issue, he also said that they would represent the issue with the President.

Describing the four-year BJP rule as progress in reverse direction and failure to fulfill poll promises , he charged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had accorded priority to visiting 82 countries and wearing costly dresses as a ‘model’ instead of acting like a statesman.

Town Congress president Karra Rajashekhar, TPCC spokesperson Ramya Rao, former Mayor D. Shankar, party leaders G Jayashree, Ama Anand, Akula Prakash and others were also present.
