The District Natural Calamity Preparedness Committee meeting was held here on Wednesday and took up the preparedness issue ahead of the monsoon.

Ironically, the meeting was skipped by MP Kulamani Samal, Tirtol MLA Rajashree Mallick, Paradip MLA Damodara Rout and Jagatsinghpur MLA Chiranjib Biswal, creating flutter among the residents.

The district Collector usually convenes the meeting before monsoon where plans and programmes to combat monsoon related disasters are chalked out. The Government officials, PRI representatives, MP and MLAs from the district are invited to share their views and suggestions at the meeting.

This year, all the stakeholders had been invited. However, State Planning Board Vice Chairman Bishnu Das, Balikuda- Erasama MLA Prashant Muduli, Jagatsinghpur Municipality Chairman Biplab Choudhury and ZP President Priyadarshani Biswal were present and participated in the discussion.

Collector Yamini Sarangi informed at the meeting about the administration’s readiness over combating the natural disaster as the Jagatsinghpur costal district is calamity prone. She said the block and tehsil headquarters would be opened 24 hours. For any emergency, the locals can contact the district emergency office through toll free telephone number 1077, she said.

Food stuffs, medicines, animal fodders and boats have been stocked at each block headquarters, while senior officials and revenue staff have been asked to supply these articles as and when required during disaster affected areas, she informed.
