Political leaders pay tribute to ‘Kaduvetti’ Guru

Anbumani Ramadoss says the Vanniyar Sangam leader played a pivotal role in his decision to enter politics

Leaders of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the Pattali Makkal Katchi and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam condoled the death of Vanniyar Sangam leader and former PMK legislator ‘Kaduvetti’ Guru.

In a statement, Anbumani Ramadoss said the PMK leader’s death had left him in deep sorrow. “As far as I can remember, he showered me with immense love and affection. He looked after my well-being. He was instrumental in pushing me into politics,” said Mr. Ramadoss.

MDMK leader Vaiko said Guru was a ‘social justice warrior’, and that he had developed a friendship with the latter, despite their differing party affiliations.

TNCC president Su. Thirunavukkarasar said Guru was Dr. Ramadoss’ political lieutenant. VCK chief Thol. Thirumavalavan said he had worked with Guru in 2011 on the ‘Tamil Padhukappu Iyakkam’ and during the Assembly elections. “I offer my deepest condolences to his family and relatives,” he said.

In a letter to Guru's wife Latha, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said he was aggrieved to hear about his demise. “Thiru Guru was a people's leader who worked for the welfare of every section of society. Please accept my heartfelt condolences,” he wrote.
