‘The Netherlands is seeing more Indian students’

The number of Indian students studying in the Netherlands has seen a steady increase, with an estimated rise of 30% over the last one year, according to Sigrid Kaag, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, the Netherlands.

“Indian students are hard-working and we see a lot of them stay back,” Ms. Kaag said, and added that the numerous scholarships and bridge courses had helped in creating a viable atmosphere for studies at the Netherlands.

She was speaking on the sidelines of the Indo-Dutch Trade Mission, a day-long programme organised to foster better trade relations between the two countries.

Bengaluru has a significant role to play in this, with the huge number of startups that the city hosts. The city could also benefit from stronger business relations with the Netherlands, city Mayor R. Sampath Raj said, and added that the government would look at tying up with Dutch companies to solve civic issues.
