Indore: Thousands of students have put off their plan for obtaining degrees after Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV)’s executive council gave approval for granting bilingual degree three months back. The students want to obtain the degree in new format. After two years of announcement, the university finally approved the proposal in February stating that the bilingual degrees will be issued from April 1. However, announcement remains on paper though more than two months have passed after EC gave the approval.
“Due to procedural delays, the new degree certificate could not be issued. We’ll start issuing new certificates soon,” said DAVV vice-chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad. Accepting a long standing demand of its students, DAVV decided to grant bilingual degree certificate, which will come in glossy paper. It will be non-tearable and water proof. DAVV has also decided to mention QR code in degree certificate to prevent counterfeiting.
Deputy registrar (exams) Prajwal Khare said, “They are waiting for the new format of the degree to come. Students will not have to wait long. Come July, we will start giving degrees in new format,” he said. At present, DAVV grants two degrees to a student – one in Hindi and another in English language. The university merged nomenclatures of both the degrees into one and came up with single bilingual degree. “A student has to give Rs 200 each for one degree of Hindi and another in English language. For bilingual degree, the student will have to pay Rs 300. In this way, he will save Rs 100,” Khare said. The degree certificates will be computerised.
