Saturday morning accident on I-95 causes heavy backup

An already-busy traffic weekend got worse Saturday morning in Wilmington. 

The two right lanes of I-95 north at exit 5 at Airport Road were closed because of an accident, according to an advisory from the Delaware Department of Transportation at 10:19 a.m. An update at 11:45 noted that the lanes were still closed. DelDOT tweeted at 4 p.m. that the crash was cleared. 

An interactive traffic map showed heavy backup for several miles on I-95 (and on the exit for Del. 273). At about noon, the backup extended from just south of Salem Church Road to the accident scene at Airport Road. 

Farther south, Newark roadways were expected to be clogged on Saturday thanks to the University of Delaware graduation ceremonies and a number of afternoon convocation ceremonies.
