‘Enforce labour laws in IT, ITeS sector’

Forum of IT Professionals raises demand

The Forum of IT Professionals on Saturday released a declaration and demanded that the Telangana government protect IT and ITeS sector employees by pressing companies to implement labour laws.

The declaration was released at the Forum’s first state-level convention, which was attended by several techies.

Forum members said there is a need to form a union which would deal with the rapidly changing scenario of the automation and machine learning driven IT and ITeS sector.

Touching upon the recent spate of retrenchments and the trend of ‘zero per cent hikes’, members said this is tantamount to endangering the right to life.

“For a nation like India, with a large portion of the young generation associated with the knowledge economy and millions planning their career to be a part of the same, it makes it all the more important that stability is ensured in lives of the workforce and the industry,” the declaration reads.

The list of demands also include compensating the employees for working extra hours.

The board has also sought the government’s intervention for constitution of a board to decide minimum wage increments.
