2019 Mercedes B-Class Getting Ready To Take On BMW’s 2-Series Active Tourer

Another prototype of the next-gen Mercedes-Benz B-Class was spied testing in Germany, still with heavy camouflage on.

Poised to take on the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer, the compact MPV is expected to retain its overall shape, only with sleeker styling that incorporates elements of Merc’s new design language.

Moreover, since it competes in the premium segment, it will also benefit some high-end materials in the cockpit and, of course, a long list of optional extras.

As it was already revealed in a previous set of spy shots, the dominating feature inside is the dual-screen layout. It will be offered in three different sizes, and is joined by leather trim with contrast stitching, metal accents and glossy bits. This prototype reveals yet another feature of the third generation B-Class: a large panoramic sunroof, which will be in the options list.

Most powertrains will be shared with the 2019 A-Class. Thus, expect to see certain petrol and diesel units, probably along with an electrified option later on – but no AMGs, though.

Pricing will probably go up a bit from the current generation, which can be ordered from €26,638 ($31,583) in Germany.

The 2019 B-Class could be unveiled this fall, at the Paris Auto Show, though nothing is confirmed yet.
