Rouhani Congratulates Jordan King

President Hassan Rouhani sent a congratulated Jordan's King Abdullah II on the occasion of the anniversary of the kingdom’s independence and called on Islamic nations to close ranks. In the letter Thursday, Rouhani called for closer cooperation between the two countries in various fields. “I hope that through added efforts, we will witness the expansion of ties on the bilateral and multilateral levels,” Rouhani said, Mehr News Agency reported. The anniversary of Jordan’s independence came days after the relocation of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Beit-ul-Moqaddas amid an international outcry. Abdullah responded to the embassy move, warning it would have serious repercussions for the security and stability in the Middle East, and seriously hurt the feelings of both Muslims and Christians. Rouhani and the king held a brief meeting on the sidelines of the emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Turkey on May 18.
