Lookbox Design Awards 2018 to recognises Singapore's most outstanding homes and interior designers

Lookbox Design Awards (LBDA) was launched by Lookbox Living (part of Indesign Media Asia Pacific) in 2017 to recognise the most outstanding home projects and trailblazers who are raising the bar in Singapore’s residential interior design scene.

Following last year’s successful awards programme, Lookbox Design Awards returns in 2018 with 10 categories, of which two are new. The categories are: Outstanding HDB Flat; Outstanding Private Apartment; Outstanding Landed Home; Best Space for Entertaining; Best Space for Retreat; Best Open-Plan Concept (*new); Most Dramatic Transformation; Outstanding Space: Old Home Conversion (*new); Interior Design Firm of the Year; and Home of the Year (*by judges’ nomination).

“The quality of residential projects that have been entered into the Lookbox Design Awards to date is proof that Singapore interior design emerging out to a global level,” says Raj Nandan, CEO of Indesign Media Asia Pacific. “As the first independent, Singapore-focused residential interior design competition, Lookbox Design Awards brings recognition to the outstanding talent on our shores. We are excited to see how this year’s programme will help to drive the industry to greater levels of excellence,” he adds.

A total of 200 entries were submitted to last year’s inaugural awards programme across 9 categories. Out of 53 shortlisted entries, there were 11 winners, including one special winner for the category ‘Home of the Year’ (by judges’ nomination), and 9 honourable mentions.

LBDA 2018 has opened for submissions and Singaporean interior design firms will have till the deadline of Thursday, 12 July 2018 to submit their entries. The Shortlist will be announced in October 2018, and the winners will be unveiled at the Awards Gala Night in early December 2018.

THE INTERNATIONAL JUDGING PANEL
The LBDA judges this year are highly respected interior designers, architects, academics and editors from Singapore, the Asia Pacific and Europe.

They include Andrea Savage, Partner & Project Director and Nikki Hunt, Principal, Design Intervention (Singapore); Christina Thean, Director, Park + Associates (Singapore); Joey Ho, Design Partner, P A L Design Group (Hong Kong); Kelley Cheng, Founder and Creative Director, The Press Room (Singapore); Melonie Bayl-Smith, Director, Bijl Architecture (Australia); Patrick Macklin, Head of Department, Interior Design, The Glasgow School of Art (UK); Peter Tay, Founder and Design Director, Peter Tay Studio (Singapore); Rene Tan, Co-founder and Director, RT+Q Architects (Singapore); and Voon Wong, Creative Director, Viewport Studio (UK/Singapore).

In speaking at last year’s awards, LBDA judge Patrick Macklin said: “Awards of this nature are hugely important. It’s crucial that we recognise locally based talent, especially locally based talent with an international reach. I think it’s salutary that this awards have been introduced, and I think it recognises the burgeoning design scene in this country.”
