Facing criticism for his son’s appointment as an assistant advocate general weeks after his wife was nominated as chairperson of the Punjab Warehousing Corporation, Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Saturday announced they have decided not to accept the positions.

“My son, Karan, rang me up today morning to tell me that he does not want to accept the post nor will his mother. Karan deserved it on merit as he has been practising at New Delhi earlier and in the Punjab AG office since last year. He applied for the post to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather Bhagwant Singh, who was an advocate general of Punjab,” Sidhu said while addressing media here.

He went on to add that his wife Navjot Kaur too was a former MLA and a chief parliamentary secretary. “She sacrificed her seat for me and went door to door in her constituency to make sure I win while I toured all of Punjab in last year’s polls. My family has always stood by me. They have both made me proud. I feel light as a feather now,” he added.
