THANE: An office assistant with an insurance agent from Bhayander has been convicted and sentenced to one-year imprisonment by a magistrate court for fraudently siphoning off Rs 76,000 from his employer.
The employer gave him the money to be paid on behalf of a client in the LIC office at Mira Road.

On August 21, 2017, the insurance agent gave Rs 76,000 and policy documents of a client to the accused for remitting the money with the LIC office in Mira Road.

“On August 21, 2017, the agent gave him money and documents and himself waited outside the Mira Road branch, but the accused did not return and vanished from the scene. He remained untraceable,” prosecutor Jaishree Korde told the court. —Nishikant Karlikar
