Orange City UMC plans VBS

Children of the community are invited to “Maker Fun Factory” Vacation Bible School from 5:15 to 8 p.m. June 12-15 at Orange City United Methodist Church, 396 E. University Ave., Orange City. This is for 2-year-olds to fifth-graders. Friday evening there will be a family event with a free picnic. Activities include snack supper, bible stories, drama, crafts and games. This is free. Dinner theater slated at First Church in Palm Coast

Composer George Gershwin and lyricist Ira Gershwin's “Porgy and Bess” will be performed at dinner theater 3 p.m., June 9, at First Church, 91 Old Kings Road, Palm Coast. This is an opera show. Cost is $30. For information, call 386-446-5759.

Port Orange Presbyterian to host concert

Vivaldi’s Gloria will perform at a concert at 4 p.m., on May 27, at Port Orange Presbyterian Church, 4662 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange. There will be hors d’oeuvres before the concert. Cost is $10. For information, call 386-788-1111.

Lifetree Café: Daytona Beach

The growing number of teen suicides will be discussed 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 27, at Lifetree Café, 142 Fairview Ave., Daytona Beach.

The program titled, "Exploring Teen Suicide: A Necessary Conversation," features a filmed interview with Shay Black, a woman whose son unexpectedly took his own life. In the interview, Black discusses the aftermath of losing her son.

Lifetree Café: DeLand

Lifetree Café is an hour-long experience with interesting stories in a comfortable and safe place where participants have the opportunity to share thoughts about compelling topics and hear the thoughts of others.

DeLand’s Lifestree Café is held each week at a few different locations and days. The topic for the week of May 28 is “Teen Suicide: A necessary conversation” at the following days and locations
