Boy killed, father hurt in jumbo attack

A five-year-old boy was killed and his father sustained injuries in an elephant attack in Kokerma village under the Baramitrapur Forest Range under the Rourkela Forest Division on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Rahul Badaik.

As per sources, one Krishna Badaik, a resident of the village, who was sleeping with his son Rahul at his home when an elephant entered into the house.

While they were running to a safer place, the pachyderm trampled the child to death and injured his father.

Forest officials reached the spot and rushed Krishna to the hospital.

Rourkela Assistant Conservator of Forest Dilip Sahoo said, “We have handed over the dead body of five year old boy to his family after post mortem, on Friday”.

After completion of the formalities, the family of the victim would be paid compensation of Rs four lakh from the State Government, he sadded.
