SportsPulse: MLB insider Bob Nightengale looks at the historic season Shohei Ohtani is putting together and if he truly can become the 'next Babe Ruth.' USA TODAY Sports

The New York Yankees got off to a hot start on Saturday, and Aaron Judge made some baseball history in the process.

In the bottom of the first inning, Brett Gardner launched a homer on just the second pitch from Los Angeles Angels starter Jaime Barria. Three pitches later, Judge made it back-to-back homers on a bomb to center.

But the blast did more than just turn a 1-0 Yankees deficit into a 2-1 lead.

The home run was the 70th of Judge's career, making him the fastest MLB player to reach the mark, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Judge hit the 70-homer plateau in his 231st career game, two games quicker than longtime Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard took to hit the mark.

After hitting four homers in 2016 in 27 games, Judge was named AL rookie of the year last season while blasting a league-leading 52 homers.

He's launched 14 home runs so far this season.

Austin Romine would add a third homer in the game for the Bronx Bombers in the second inning as the Yankees took a 4-1 lead.

Unfortunately for the Yankees it was all Angels the rest of the way.

Led by a 5-for-5, 4-RBI, 3-run effort by Mike Trout (three doubles, a two-run homer and a single), the Angels rallied to an 11-4 victory in New York.

Judge finished 2-for-2 and drew two walks.
