Three drown off Alibaug coast,  two bodies recovered


Mumbai: Three persons drowned while swimming in the sea off the coast of Alibaug in Raigad district at Nagaon beach, about 112 kilometres from here, police said on Saturday. The official said that the bodies of two of the three persons had been recovered while a search for the third was currently underway.

The incident occurred on  Friday night when a group of 10 persons, hailing from Kopar Khairane in Navi Mumbai, were in Alibaug for a picnic, the official informed. Suhad Siddiquee (21), Ashish Ramnarayan Mishra (20) and Chaitanya Kiran (20) along with a group of ten other persons had ventured at Nagaon beach. Siddiquee, Mishra and Kiran ventured into the sea to swim on Saturday night at 8 p.m. along with their friends. The other friends returned to the shore while Siddiquee, Mishra and Kiran got pulled in due to high tide.

The police have traced the body of Siddiquee and Mishra along with the help of the locals and fishermen and handed over to their families after post mortem. The search operations to trace the body of Kiran were underway till Saturday night.
