India bag 2nd and 3rd position in archery  wc

Antalya: India opened its account with a silver and a bronze medal in the compound section of the ongoing second stage of the archery World Cup Stage II here today. India's women compound team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Muskan Kirar and Divya Dhayal recoverd from a poor start to lose to their Chinese Taipei opponents by three points to settle for a silver. Later in the evening session, third seeded mixed pair of Abhisek Verma and Jyothi prevailed over Belgian duo of Reginald Kools and Sarah Prieels 158-155 in the bronze play-off to add a second medal to India's tally.

Prajnesh falls at French Open qualifiers

paris: Prajnesh Gunneswaran will have to wait for his maiden appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam as he could not cross the final hurdle at the French Open qualifiers, suffering a straight set defeat against Elias Ymer, here on friday. The left-handed Prajnesh, ranked 183, lost 3-6 4-6 in the third and final round against the Swede, ranked 122 in the world. "I didn't play aggressive enough and it cost me the match. I took just one of the nine breakpoints," the 28-year-old said.

 Serena, venus get French Open wildcard

paris: Serena and Venus Williams were handed a wild card into the French Open women's doubles as the American sisters seek to add a third Roland Garros title to their triumphs in 1999 and 2010. They have won 14 Grand Slam doubles as a team but since their last win together in Paris they have only featured on two further occasions at the tournament, losing in the first round in 2013 and the third round in 2016. Serena, a three-time singles champion at the French Open, will be playing in her first Grand Slam tournament since winning the Australian Open in 2017 after which she stepped off the tour to give birth to her daughter in September.

Pak 227-5 at tea after Eng 184 all out

london: Pakistan batted their way into a strong position in the first test against England at Lord's, but lost a crucial wicket shortly before tea on the second day on Friday when Sarfraz Ahmed fell into an English trap. At the break, Pakistan were 227-5, a lead of 43 after England were bowled out for 184 in their first innings on the first day. Struggling for a crucial 5th wicket, England’s Ben Stokes sent down a barrage of bouncers. Sarfraz ducked under all of them until he could not resist a wild hook at the last ball of the afternoon session and top-edged a catch to Mark Wood at deep square leg.
