CBSE Class 12 results: Third in country, Tanuja wants to pursue career in law

Haridwar’s Tanuja Kapri got the third position in the Class 12 examination results announced by the CBSE on Saturday.

Kapri, who scored 497 marks out of 500, shared the position with six other students in the country, while she is the topper in Uttarakhand.

Student of Gayatri Vidyapeeth School at Shanti Kunj in Haridwar district, Tanuja got full marks in Hindi, English, Geography and Painting. In economics, she scored 97.

Unlike other students of her age, who wish to pursue medical, engineering or management courses, she wants to pursue humanities to become a lawyer.

She said she is inspired by the Constitution of India. “The Constitution of India intrigues me. I want to know it all. And I want to understand it to help others; help poor people, who do not know of their rights,” she said. Eventually, she wants to become judge to provide “justice to innocents”.

Tanuja’s father Maheshwar Dutt Kapri works in a private company and her mother is a housewife. Coming from a moderate background, Tanuja is sensitive towards contemporary issues. “The youngsters should have a distance from social media. I believe the entire generation is being plagued by the virtual world, which scares me. I want to do advocacy at some point in life to share and educate youth about its impacts,” she added.

The second position in the state was bagged by Sapna Negi, a student of Army Public School at Clement Town in Dehradun district. Sapna scored 496 marks. She got 100 marks each in Biology, Chemistry and Physical Education and 99 and 97 in English and Physics respectively.

Sapna wants to pursue a career in medical stream and research in the field of cancer. “Unlike old times, people are easily falling prey to cancer these days. And the number is swelling. I want to conduct a research and will try to find a cure so that patients even in their advance stages (of cancer) can be treated,” she said. Her father Karan Singh Negi is an army officer and mother a homemaker.

The school principal, Gitanjali, who goes by her first name, was overwhelmed with her performance. “She (Sapna) is a promising child,” the principal said.

Sapna shared the second position in the state with Kavya Arora of Bhartiyam Inter School in Udham Singh Nagar district.

Guntash Obhan of Ecole Globale Girls International School in Dehradun district and Anshul Bhatt of AVB Institute of Learning at Haldwani in Nainital district stood the joint third in Uttarakhand scoring 495.

Visually challenged students also shine

Students of the National Institute of Visually Handicapped (NIVH) Model School in Dehradun also proved their mettle in the CBSE results. Pooja Kumari of the school, who has 100% visual impairment, got 97.8% marks scoring 100 in two subjects. A native of Arwal in Bihar, Pooja was enrolled with the school in 2014.

Another student of the school, Rakhi Kumari, who hails from Haryana, stood second with 94.6%.

Total 20 students of the school appeared for the Class 12 board examination. Five students scored above 90% marks, while 19 students got above 70% marks. They will be given a scholarship of Rs 2,000 per month for pursuing higher studies.
