The well-travelled Mousasi claimed Bellator's 185lbs title this evening in the main event of Bellator 200, which took place in London, England.
In front of a raucous crowd at the SSE Wembley Arena, Mousasi claimed his fifth world title by defeating the vastly underrated Rafael Carvalho.
Mousasi ended Carvalho's seven-year-long unbeaten streak by registering a first-round TKO victory over the Brazilian.
Both men were very tentative in the opening moments of the first round, perhaps due the immense respect they had for one another’s game.
However, a little over a minute after the opening buzzer Mousasi put Carvalho on his back with a double-leg takedown.
Carvalho attempted to work his way back to his feet but couldn’t shake off Mousasi, who took him back to the ground at will.
The former Dream middleweight champion soon found worked his way into full mount and Carvalho was well and truly in defence mode.
GETTY
As Carvalho tried to work his way up, Mousasi began to reign down punishing strike after punishing strike.
Carvalho had no answer to the bombs Mousasi was dropping on the side of his head and that prompted referee Dan Miragliotta to call a halt to proceedings.
