Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-nation visit to Indonesia and Singapore from May 29 to June 2 when key agreements in various sectors including defence is expected to be signed.

In Singapore, Modi will be delivering the keynote address at the Shangri-La dialogue. This is the first time an Indian PM has been invited to deliver the keynote address at this prestigious event.

This will be Modi’s first official visit to Indonesia and his second official visit to Singapore. According to Preeti Saran, Secretary East, Ministry of External Affairs, the dialogue gives PM an opportunity to articulate his thoughts about India’s policy on peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region, which she said will be the focus of his keynote address. The PM is also likely to share his philosophy on ‘Sagarmala’ during the keynote address, she added.

In Indonesia, strengthening maritime security cooperation is expected to be on PM Modi’s list of agenda. As part of its ASEAN connectivity plans, India is keen to develop seaport in Aceh, which is just 80 nautical miles from Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A cruise tourism circuit between Andamans and Aceh is also being discussed.
