Excise revenue up by ₹370 cr. in Warangal

Check on ID liquor improves sales

There has been phenomenal increase in sale of liquor in the erstwhile undivided Warangal district which registered a whopping ₹ 370 crore more compared to last year.

The increase is attributed to the effective check on illicitly distilled (ID) liquor and formation of new districts. In recent times, there was further increase in sale as many in rural areas people got money under Rythu Bandhu scheme which was actually meant for input assistance for crops.

According to officials, the sale of liquor from April 2017 to March 2018 was ₹1,981.11 crore where as the same for the previous year was ₹1,610.53 crore thus registering an increase of ₹370 crore in all the current five districts of erstwhile undivided Warangal district.

In Warangal Urban district, 1,18,078 cartons of liquor and 17,26,060 bottles of beer was sold taking the total revenue to ₹ 691.65 crore. In Mahabubabad district, 6,86,577 cartons of IML and 7,79,130 beer bottles were sold earning ₹ 355.43 crore. In Warangal Rural district, the excise revenue was put at ₹339.31 crore.

An officer of the superintendent rank said since the formation of new districts, there was effective check on ID liquor.

“The arrest of ID liquor is our major achievement. The gudumba menace led to destruction of families and untimely deaths,” he pointed out.

In Warangal Urban district, there was an increase of excise revenue of ₹106.32 crore compared to previous year. In rural district, the revenue was ₹72.70 crore and in Bhupalpalli district, the Excise revenue was ₹63.29 crore while in Jangaon district it was ₹61.40 crore.
