Security scaled up for Pawan Kalyan

The State government took steps for providing full-fledged security for Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan who suspended his tour on Thursday citing lack of sufficient safety measures for him and his staff.

Srikakulam SP C.M. Trivikram Varma ordered DSPs concerned to make the necessary arrangements during public meetings and at guest houses where the leader would stay during his tour in the district. However, Mr. Varma clarified that the JSP had not given any written complaint about the tussle between locals and the JSP chief’s own security.

Mr. Pawan, who started his Statewide bus yatra from Itchapuram on May 20, has till date visited several places, including Sompeta and Palasa.

In a media release, the JSP alleged that Mr. Pawan’s personal security guards suffered injuries in the the attack by locals. It also charged the government did not take seriously the possible threats to the party chief.

‘ICMR on the job’

The district administration also reacted to the deadline set by Mr. Pawan on the Uddanam chronic kidney disease (CKD) issue.

Joint Collector KVN Chakradharbabu said the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) had been studying the issue for the last few months. “The ICMR team, stationed at the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences, has taken steps for establishment of local research centres in Sompeta and Palasa. As many as 1,01,593 persons were screened and 13,093 identified patients are being given treatment. Needy patients are being given dialysis at Sompeta, Palasa, Tekkali and Visakhapatnam hospitals,” said Mr. Chakradhar Babu.
