Qualifier 2, Eden Gardens, Kolkata 25 May, 2018

Live Now : Toss won by Kolkata Knight Riders (decided to bowl)

Highlights

21:44(IST)

Four and Four: Short and wide from Brathwaite and Lynn launches at the ball and it takes a huge edge off the bat and goes for a boundary over short third man. With that Lynn moves into his 30s and he is looking good. And then, he cuts the ball hard over the point fielder for the second four of the over. After 8 overs, KKR's score reads 81/1

21:42(IST)

Excellent first over Rashid Khan as he gives away just three runs from it. There were couple of huge LBW shouts as well but both times the batsmen survived because of minor issues. Rashid's remaining three overs might be the key here.

21:38(IST)

DRS: Rashid Khan comes into attack and Chris Lynn straight away goes for the sweep shot but misses the ball and it hits his pads. The players make a huge appeal but umpire says not out. DRS shows that the ball had hit the glouves before hitting the pads and the decision stays. SRH lose their DRS.

21:32(IST)

Six overs have been bowled and it can be said that Kolkata are on top in the chase with Lynn and Rana scoring at a brisk pace. 67 runs have been scored and only one wicket have fallen thus far - Narine for 26.

21:30(IST)

SIX: Chris Lynn is on fire as well as he hits a flat six over the head of bowler Kaul and gets a six towards long off. Second six for Lynn as Kolkata are scoring runs at a brisk pace and are eating away runs from the target.

21:27(IST)

SIX and SIX: Nitish Rana is now taking apart Khaleel Ahmed as he slams two huge sixes off his bowling. Firts he cut the ball over third man and then flicked the ball over square leg. With that, KKR also cross the 50-run mark.

21:21(IST)

OUT: Sunil Narine's blazing innings finally comes to an end as he is dismissed by Siddarth Kaul for 26. Carlos Brathwaite takes a good catch at long-on to get rid of the southpaw. KKR lose their first wicket as Rana comes onto the crease now.

21:15(IST)

Four SIX Four Four: Sunil Narine is now taking apart Bhuvneshwar Kumar as he deals in boundaries in the third over of the innings. First, he dispathces the ball towards covers, then hits the ball over long off for a six, then he flicked the ball for a boundary and then hit the ball over Bhuvi for a four. Narine  and Lynn are taking apart the KKR bowlers and this chase could be over early if these two continue to bat.

21:12(IST)

SIX: Khaleel Ahmed has been taken apart in his first over in the IPL. He bowls a bit full and Lynn hits the ball over the cover region for the first six of the innings. 13 runs came from that over as KKR are off to a flying start in the chase.

21:09(IST)

Four: Khaleel Ahmed bowls his first delivery in the IPL and he is hit for a boundary straight away by Narine. The left hander bowled onto the pads of Narine and the southpaw flicks the ball for a boundary. The second boundary of the innings is hit by Narine in the second over.

21:06(IST)

Four: Short and wide from Bhuvnseshwar Kumar and Chris Lynn simply cuts the ball on the off side for the first boundary off the innings. The Australian is up and running in the chase. 6 runs came from the first over from Bhuvi.

21:05(IST)

The players are back on the pitch and Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn are opening the innings as usual while Bhuvneshwar Kumar is opening the bowling for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Remember, the winner of this clash will enter the final so a lot is riding on this chase.

20:53(IST)
20:52(IST)

SIX and Innings Ends: Rashid Khan hits one six down the ground to finish the innings in style. Rashid slammed 34 runs off 10 deliveries and it included 4 sixes and 2 boundaries. With that, Hyderabad finish at 174/7 in 20 overs and at one point, 150 seemed a distant score.

20:49(IST)

Four and SIX: Rashid Khan is simply changing the complexion of the game with his power hitting in these last couple of overs of the innings. After hitting two sixes in the 19th over, he now slams a four and six off Prasidh in the last over and we still have two balls left to be played.

20:46(IST)

SIX and SIX: Rashid Khan slams couple of huge sixes in the penultimate over of the innings off Shivam Mavi and with that SRH cross the 150-run mark as well. This will give SRH the physiological advantage that they needed.

20:40(IST)

OUT: Another one bites the dust as Yusuf Pthan is the latest to head back into the hut off the bowling of Shivam Mavi. The right hander hits the ball into the hands of Piyush Chawla at long off and with that SRH lose their 7th wicket of the day.

20:38(IST)

OUT: Carlos Brathwaite will be kicking himself for getting out the way he did. The West Indian gets himself run out after taking a suicidal double. Nitish Rana with an excellent pick up and throw and the right hander has to go back after scoring 8.

20:34(IST)

SIX: Brathwaite seems to be on a mission and he makes his intentions clear early on in the innings. He smacks the ball over the long on boundary off the bowling of Prasidh. SRH need more of such hits to fire them to a big score.

20:32(IST)

Carlos Brathwaite and Yusuf Pathan are now out in the middle and the onus is on these two batsmen to fire SRH over 150 in the remaining overs. As things stand, KKR will be happy with their bowlers but anything can happen in the final two overs and they will have to cautious.

20:28(IST)

OUT: Hyderabad are now losing wickets in quick succession as Deepak Hooda becomes the latest to depart. The right hander went for the revese sweep but is caught out in the deep by Chawla off the bowling of Narine. SRH lose their fifth wicket now.

20:21(IST)

OUT: What an unlucky way to get dismissed. Hooda hit the ball towards Kuldeep and the ball took a slight edge off the fingers of Kuldeep and rattled the stumps on the non striker's end. Shakib was out of the crease and he has to depart now for 28. SRH lose their fourth now.

20:18(IST)

Four and Four: Shakib is now taking the attack to Sunil Narine as he hits back to back boundaries off his bowling. First, he cut the ball on the off side and then he slogged the ball towards deep mid wicket for the second four. SRH need more of such overs as they got 13 from this one.

20:13(IST)

100: Another excellent over from Kuldeep Yadav as he gives away just five runs from his third over of the day. Hooda took a single on the last ball of the over and with that SRH cross the 100-run mark in 14 overs.

20:08(IST)

Four: Chawla tosses the ball up and Shakib moved away from the stumps and drove the ball past the cover fielder for a boundary. Second four of the innings for Shakib as SRH enter the 90s now.

20:06(IST)

Sunil Narine now bowls an excellent over as he concedes just four singles from it. 12 overs have been bowled and SRH have scored on 90 runs and they will have to get a move on soon. Shakib and Hooda will have to start scoring at a brisk pace sooner than later.

20:01(IST)

OUT: Kolkata spinners are doing the trick for the teams as this time Piyush Chawla gets rid of Saha for 35. Saha got out of the crease and Karthik took the bails off in a jiffy. The third umpire was called in to check had Karthik dropped the ball before dislodging the bails but it wasn't the case. SRH lose their third wicket now.

19:53(IST)

DRS: Kuldeep thought he had picked his third wicket of the night but DRS thwarted his hopes of doing so. Saha looked to sweep the ball but the ball crashed into his pads. Umpire said not out but Kuldeep forced his skipper to take the DRS. Replays showed that the ball was missing the leg stump and Saha survives.

19:46(IST)

Four: For once, Prasidh Krishna bowls a big full and wide and that gave Saha the opportunity to come onto the front foot and drive the ball for a boundary towards the covers. Third four of the innings for Saha in this innings.

19:43(IST)

OUT: Kuldeep Yadav is simply on fire as he gets the in-form Kane Williamson as well in his first over of the innings. A stunning wrong one and Williamson edges the ball into the hands of keeper Karthik. Hyderabad have now lost two of their most explosive batsmen in one over.

PREVIEW:

The live telecast of the IPL 2018 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad will start at 7 PM on May 25th (Friday). The match can be seen live on the Star Sports network and live streaming will be available on hotstar.com. You can also follow the match live blog for ball-by-ball updates, full score and IPL match highlight on cricketnext.com. While KKR ticked all the boxes during the business end of the tournament with four wins on the trot, table-toppers Sunrisers have slipped after finishing on top of the league table. Call it complacency or the lack of performance from their middle-order, Sunrisers have lost four straight games, something that will be a cause of concern for Kane Williamson's brigade. Arguably the best bowling attack in the tournament with Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma delivering consistently along with the immensely talented Rashid Khan, Sunrisers will like to extract whatever juice is available from the Eden Gardens track. But with the momentum strongly in favour of Dinesh Karthik and Co who will also heavily bank on home advantage, it will need a special effort from the Kane Williamson-led side to stop the Kolkata juggernaut and return to winning ways. First to qualify for the play-offs eliminating Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers' slide began in Pune, when their famed bowling attack failed to defend 180 against Chennai and then went on to lose to RCB, KKR and CSK in subsequent games.

Hyderabad's problem has been their batting which is heavily reliant on skipper Kane Williamson, the current 'Orange Cap' holder with 685 runs at 57.05 average. Their latest defeat will hurt them the most as they had their match in pocket with Chennai struggling at 113/8 inside 18 overs chasing 140 but Williamson's strategy to keep an over from Carlos Brathwaite at the death backfired. The West Indian leaked 20 runs in the 18th over as Hyderabad will have the big selection headache of whom to fill in as the fifth and sixth bowler. Bhuvneshwar (9 wickets) will also need to get his act together complement the wily Afghan wrist spinner Rashid Khan (18 wickets) as Williamson also have big holes to plug in the batting department. Siddarth Kaul (19 wickets) has been their best bowler of the season with consistent efforts at the start as well as death. Out for a 'golden duck' in the last match, Shikhar Dhawan (437 runs) will have to rise to the occasion but it is the middle order that has created problems for Sunrisers. Manish Pandey (284) and Yusuf Pathan (212) have been big flops and their inability to provide the necessary muscle in the middle overs is a concern.

There will be no such headache for Kolkata skipper Dinesh Karthik who will look to go unchanged unless there's any niggle in the lineup. Surprise choice as Kolkata skipper after the departure of their most successful captain Gautam Gambhir, Dinesh Karthik is in the middle of the form of his life averaging 54.44 from 15 matches. Two wins shy of winning the title, Karthik will look to go full throttle in a standout season for the softspoken Tamil Nadu cricketer. Their biggest strength has been the team's ability to stand up and perform in case someone fails. In the last match, opener Sunil Narine failed to give the team a fiery start but Andre Russell's 25-ball 49 not out ensured that they end on a flourish to eliminate Rajasthan Royals. Narine was ineffective as a bowler too but the likes of Kuldeep Yadav (16 wickets) and Piyush Chawla (13 wickets) held on to their tasks while Russell and young Prasidh Krishna led the pace attack. Both teams won each in the round-robin league. Since their defeat at home, Kolkata have come a long way and won in Hyderabad. The winners will face CSK in the IPL-11 summit clash in Mumbai on May 27.
