Heavy rain warning in Kerala ahead of monsoon arrival

NEW DELHI: The Met department has warned of heavy to very heavy rains in parts of Kerala till May 28, ahead of the likely onset of southwest monsoon in the state on May 29.

High waves, thunderstorms and strong winds are forecast along the Kerala coast till 11.30pm on May 26 due to the severe cyclonic storm, Mekunu, over the west-central Arabian Sea. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

National Emergency Response Centre has alerted all coastal states, including Kerala, to be on alert closely monitoring the situation during the very severe cyclonic storm Mekunu over west central Arabian sea. It is expected to move towards South East of Oman and Yemen. Due to thunderstorms, rough seas and gale winds, fishermen have been warned from venturing into the sea.
