A 25-year-old man from Thane was arrested for allegedly cyber-stalking a woman using six different mobile phone numbers and for sending her obscene messages and pornographic images.

The Sakinaka police said the accused, Suresh Waghmare, is unemployed and lives in Kasarvadavli, Thane. A phone and two SIM cards were seized from him.

Waghmare first got in touch with the 24-year-old complainant, who works as a medical compounder at an Andheri clinic, in January, the police said.

“They were friends on Facebook, but had never met. He called and told her that he was in love with her, to which she responded by asking him not to call her again,” an official said. He kept calling her and she continued to cut his calls till she got herself a new number. However, he started calling her on the clinic’s landline. Soon, he also got her new number and sent her some obscene WhatsApp messages. He started using up to six numbers to call her as well as to send obscene messages.

“The woman asked him to stop harassing her and blocked one of his numbers, but he sent her pornographic images again on May 12,” the official said. He has confessed to the crime, the police said. He was booked under sections 354 (D) , 509 and 67A of the IPC and under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013.
