Mumbai: Congress and MNS hit the streets against soaring fuel prices

Mumbai: Opposition Congress, NCP and MNS on Thursday hit out at the Centre and Maharashtra government over the fuel price hike and questioned the silence of those who had attacked the previous UPA-led dispensation over the issue. Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam led a protest against fuel price hike at Kalina in suburban Mumbai. The Western Express Highway witnessed traffic jams during the peak hours as a result.

“Those who questioned us frequently are quiet…where are their sensitivities now. Why are they not challenging the government now?,” he asked. The Congress protest, which started at Kalina, ended at the Collector’s office in Bandra.  The MNS also jumped onto the agitation against the rising prices with party activists taking out a protest rally in Thane. MNS supporters pushed their two wheelers from Masunda lake to the Collector’s office.

The protest march lead by the city president Ravindra More, led to traffic jam on the interior roads of the city for quite some time. The MNS protest had a crowd of women activists as well who pushed their Activas on the road.
