Temple College earns JUCO World Series bid out of left field

Temple College coach and former major league pitcher Craig McMurtry was at home in Texas a week ago, preparing for exit interviews with his players, when a strange thing unfolded 130-some miles way. A benches-clearing scuffle broke out between McLennan Community College and Cisco College in the Region V tournament final. Order was quickly restored and no punches thrown, but it led to a double forfeiture. As the third-place team, McMurtry's Leopards were eventually awarded the spot to the Junior College Baseball World Series beginning this weekend in Grand Junction, Colorado.(Duane A. Coach and former major league pitcher Craig McMurtry even had exit interviews scheduled with his players. But, as they say in baseball, it ain’t over ‘til it’s over. Out of left field, McMurtry received a most surprising call. Tell his players to pack their aluminum bats. This third-place team had earned an improbable spot into the Junior College World Series.
