Delhi Police take up Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore’s fitness challenge

After India cricket captain Virat Kohli, badminton star Saina Nehwal and actor Hrithik Roshan, officers from Delhi Police have accepted sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore’s fitness challenge, with DCP Madhur Verma sharing a video of him sweating it out in the gym, on Twitter.

The #fitnesschallenge kick-started by Information and Broadcasting, and sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, has spread across the country. Right from ministers to actors to cricketers, everyone is taking it up to promote the importance of health. And our own Delhi Police just couldn’t lag behind. Madhur Verma, DCP, New Delhi, posted a video of him working out with a cable machine in the gym, and other DCPs are following suit.

“Fitness is not just about looking physically fit. For us, it meant mental fitness also. Being police officers, it is our responsibility to be fit. To keep our staff healthy, we also organise yoga sessions for them,” says Verma, who goes to the gym every day to keep fit. He posted the video with the hashtag #HumFitTohIndiaFit. “To work whole heartedly, we need to be super fit,” he asserts.

This initiative is great and has truly started a wave… fitness trend ban gayi hai ab. It is great to see so many people taking it up and realising that it has to be a part of their schedule, and that one can include it in our busy life also... Time aur place ka excuse khatam karne ka time aa gaya,” he beams.

Other top cops also share that they practice yoga even while at work. Vijayanta Arya, Additional DCP, South Delhi, says, “We, in police, face challenges every day, but [this] fitness challenge is something I fully endorse. Also, fitness is basic to policewomen. It helps us fight stress to take on challenges to act swiftly, and to feel smart. My fitness game is on.”

Esha Pandey, DCP, Special Unit for Women and Children, too, is going to start a strict fitness regime now. “All this while, with my job and two kids, I had sort of started ignoring my health. I started focusing on health two months back and lost about 8 kgs as a result of healthy eating habits and yoga. The initiative will further encourage me to remain fit.”
