DeKALB – A broke-down locomotive has caused a train to be stalled for more than three hours in downtown DeKalb, snarling traffic, according to DeKalb Public Works Director Tim Holdeman.
Holdeman said a Union Pacific switchboard operator told him about 9:45 a.m. that a new locomotive is on its way to pull the train down the line.
In the meantime, Holdeman said Pearl Street can be used as a detour, and police are out directing traffic.
“Thank goodness we have Pearl Street so you can make it around,” Holdeman said.
To the east, Peace Road is not blocked, but traffic is significantly backed up. A Facebook post from the DeKalb Police Department says Annie Glidden Road can also be used as a detour. The post says the department will update its post once the new locomotive arrives.
Truck driver William Moser, of West Lafayette, Ohio, said just before 10 a.m. that the train had been stalled for "going on four hours."
"I'm turning around; the cops told us how we should do it," Moser said.
