Six-time Congress MLA KR Ramesh elected Speaker of Karnataka Assembly

NEW DELHI Six-time Congress MLA KR Ramesh was on Friday (25.05.2018) was elected the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly.

Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, who took oath on May 23, said the Congress-JD(S) coalition had the numbers in their favour, with seats in the 225-member assembly. Three seats remain vacant.

Media reports said BJP MLA BS Yeddyurappa, who had stepped down as Karnataka Chief Minister after failing to prove majority, told the newly elected speaker KR Ramesh that he hoped he would be given the opportunity to express. Media reports said Yeddyurappa withdrew the nomination for the post of Speaker because it wanted the election to be unanimous in order to maintain dignity of the post.

Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, while welcoming the Speaker KR Ramesh, said he was happy on election of Ramesh. He said he strongly believed in his sense of fairness and responsibility in any task that was delegated to him. “We will see good days going forward,” Kumaraswamy said.
