Audio warning on trains

To reduce Signal Passing At Danger cases

In a bid to reduce the number of Signal Passing At Danger cases, Central Railway will conduct trials of an addition audio warning on the Auxiliary Warning System (AWS).

In the new system, as the train is approaching a red signal, the motorman will receive an announcement: ‘Next Signal Is Red’. “In long-distance trains, this is the job of the Assistant Loco Pilot. The AWS does this but now we will be including a human interface so it will alert the driver if there is a lapse in attention,” said Divisional Railway Manager in charge of the Mumbai Division, S.K. Pankaj.

The system will be introduced in one rake next week and if the trials are successful, CR will introduce it to all rakes in two to three months.
