Minimum temperature rises; city may experience rainfall early next week, too

It was a grey, cloudy Friday morning in Mumbai, with the city seeing heavy cloud cover for the . However, no rainfall has been recorded so far.

The weather bureau on Friday forecast cloudy weather conditions and light drizzle over the coming weekend. “Cloudy conditions and light pre-monsoon showers over north Konkan, including Mumbai, are expected as a result of various weather systems, such as a trough stretching from north Karnataka up to Tamil Nadu, and another system over Kerala,” said Bishwambhar S, chief public relations officer, Regional Meteorological Centre, India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The city may see rainfall early next week as well, on May 29 and 30, as a result of these weather systems. “On May 29, the south-west monsoon is expected to hit Kerala, and gradually start moving towards Karnataka over the next three days,” he said.

Due to the cloud cover, the minimum temperature both in the suburbs and in south Mumbai was one degree Celsius above normal, at 28 degrees.

Meanwhile, at Friday noon, the IMD declared that monsoon has hit south Andaman sea and the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
