A threat to Orewa College involving a gun was just a hoax, the principal said.
Parents were left fearful about sending their children to an Auckland school on Friday after social media threats by a student that he was bringing a gun to the college.
Principal of Orewa College, Kate Shevland, said the school was made aware of a threat involving a firearm two days ago.
Police were told and investigated.
Shevland said the threat was made by a student who was not currently at the school.
It had been posted to social media as a joke by the student.
She said that any threats to safety, whether made in jest or not, needed to be taken "very seriously".
She had sent an email to parents advising of the situation.
"We referred the matter to the police who investigated.
"Last night the same earlier threat which has already investigated was posted on social media, and again investigated by the police,"
Strong disciplinary action was taken and the student is not currently at school.
Police said they have spoken to an individual regarding the information on social media.
Police are satisfied there is no threat.
No further action is being taken.
